Each year Local 1764 hosts a motorcycle ride through Western Massachusetts to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For the last two years, the ride has been organized as a "Poker Ride" and has drawn participants from all over Western Mass.

In addition to the ride itself, registration includes a Bar-B-Q, T-shirt, live band, and a few door prizes. There are also raffles that include prizes from a number of local businesses.

Previous Years' Numbers
2008
  • 100 Bikes
  • 117 Riders
  • $4000 Raised
2007
  • 66 Bikes
  • 96 Riders
  • $2600 Raised

What's the Route?

The ride starts each year at the UMass, Amherst football stadium, located on University Drive in Amherst. It ends at the Hadley Young Men's Club, located on East Street in Hadley. Aside from that, the route varies from year to year and it not made public until the day of the ride.

Riders can participate in a "Guess the Mileage" raffle before the ride begins, which is one reason to keep the route a secret. Plus, it keeps things interesting. So far, we haven't had any complaints about the route!

More info here

We recently started the MDA Newsletter to keep riders informed of the ride and its planning. Anyone interested in receiving the newsletter can enter their email in the box to the right and they will be added to the list.

We only expect to send out a handful of emails over the course of the year. So don't expect to hear from us every week or even every month. They will mostly do with planning; and one will probably be sent out a week or two after the ride to let everyone know how we did.

Want to be a Sponsor?

We are always looking for sponsors. A donation of any kind is enough to make a business a sponsor. Generally, we ask for monetary donations or things that can be used as raffle or door prizes. We will accept other donations as well. For example, in 2008 the Hadley Young Men's Club donated the use of their facilities and Atkin's Farm helped feed the volunteers on the morning of the ride.

In return for sponsorship, business will be listed on the front page of our website (including a link of applicable) until the Spring of the next year. As planning for the next ride kicks into high gear (around April) the list will start over again. Sponsors are added to the list as soon as they commit.

Contact Dave Dion, event coordinateroor, at davedion@amherstfirefighters.org for more information or to become a sponsor.
